One simple thing will make a big difference in the life of an at-risk child: One-on-one, positive attention from a responsible, caring adult.

KIDS HOPE USA develops these one-on-one relationships through the creation of church-school partnerships that pair church members with at-risk kids in supportive, mentoring relationships.

KIDS HOPE USA mentors spend just one hour per week, reading, talking, playing and listening to a child at school. By helping the child feel loved and valued, they help that child to learn, grow and succeed.

You can change a life…and that’s no small change.

Kids Hope Serving Opportunities

Mentoring—Kids Hope mentors are regular attenders or member of Community Church who have a heart for children and the desire to be “Jesus with skin on” to one child during the school day at Pullen or Mary McGuire Schools. Mentors are paired with a child for the entire school year an hour, at a time that is convenient for both the mentor and the teacher. Teachers may ask for academic tutoring during that hour but it will also include time for playing games, reading and doing activities that the child enjoys. All mentors are trained by the Kids Hope director and receive an orientation to the schools before beginning their experience. Mentors are encouraged to stay with their mentee multiple school years if possible!

Prayer Partners—Each mentor selects or is assigned a prayer partner whose responsibility it is to simply pray for the relationship of the mentor and mentee. With the mentors doing the work in the trenches it is the responsibility of the prayer partner to maintain regular communication with their mentor so that they can specifically pray for the relationship. The prayer partners are also called upon for prayer support when needed for issues that may arise within the ministry that need to be covered with prayer. How exciting it is to get an army praying with one e-mail!

Party Committee—Our Kids Hope kids and families love the parties that we plan for each school year. Annually we have a tailgate party with the Oiler football team and cheerleaders in October, a Christmas party at the church in December, a Valentine’s party at Pullen in February, an Easter party at the church in March or April and a year end party usually at Hopewell Ranch in May. For each party we need volunteers on site the evening of the party but also need food and supply donations for each party. Several volunteers lead the party committee and contact the members in advance of each party to find out how they might be able to help.

All of these are possibilities for volunteering to support Kids Hope. You help is needed so please consider one of these opportunities and contact deb.fahr@mpcc.org.
